Athletics Day

When I was 9 years old, our school had an Athletics Day. We all competed in lots of events like High Jump, Long Jump, Vortex, Shot Put, Discus and Sprints. The first thing we did was vortex. There were two vortex and they looked like an orange, green and black rocket, then we started. The vortex area was a lane of green grass with stakes in the ground, marking every metre. I was the first to throw and we had to make a target with our hands, then we had to point our hand towards where we wanted it to hit. Some people thought it was easy and some thought it was hard, but it was easy for me. Mine went very far and very fast. At the end, I did not get in to the top three.
After vortex, we went to the long jump. The long jump was in the sand pit and we had to line up in a long line. In the sandpit, was a long measuring tape that when we jumped, told us what place we came. When we had done our jump, the sandpit got raked again. My first jump was 2.27 metres. Luckily, I  came 3rd place.
After all that tiring  work, we had our sprints. I could not wait for it. We had to run 80 metres. My first race was against Hunter-Rose and I came 2nd, then my next two races were against Jaimee and Hunter-Rose and, in both of them, I came 3rd, Hunter-Rose came 2nd and Jaimee came 1st. In my last race against Jaimee, I came 2nd.
It was a fun day, but I was very tired when I got home.

Pet Day

St Paul's School was having a Pet Day when all the kids brought their pets to school.
In the morning, the pets came. When the pets arrived, my favourite pet was a cute, clever, brown, scruffy, small possum doing tricks. The possum  was  climbing up to the top of the cage and we were trying to look for it. It was on the top of the cage. The possum was as tricky as a monkey. When the possum was eating grapes, he was standing on two legs, just like a human being.
When the  Pet Parade started, the kids led their pets around the court to show their pets to the crowd.
After the pets were taken around the court, we had a tricks game, where all the pets that could do tricks showed their pets tricks, and there were small dogs and big dogs. I liked the small dogs' tricks, Porsche, a big dog, and  the trick called Man vs Dog. The thing is they got a tie.

Molly's Birthday

In November, it was my birthday. I had come back from my friend's birthday party.
When I got home, Mum was making cakes and my brother, Bowen, went to get a present. When I got inside, my Mum gave me a present and I opened it up. The wrapping paper was polka-dotty and the present was a Fashion book. Bowen came back with a big box under a blanket. I was shivering. I was so excited. I tried to gees what it was.
Bowen came in the door and he put the box on the floor. I took the blanket off  the box. I screamed. It was a banana boat.
"I really wanted one of those," I said.

King Arthur's Castle

Mrs Death read us the story of King Arthur, then we used three different pieces of paper and combined them to show what his castle looked like.

Nicole in Dubai

Nicole was an 8 year old girl with long brown hair and freckles and she lived in Auckland and she played netball. Her favourite colour was purple and her eyes were blue.
Once upon a time, Nicole and her family went shopping in Dubai. She was in the lead going to a shop. She looked back. Her family was not there. They were in another shop.
She started to run through all the shops. She was running faster and faster. She was so scared, that, in her mind, she was screaming. When she was running, she saw a bad guy  so she ran faster. She was running through all the shops.
Phew! She got a glimpse of her family and she smiled.

New Zealand's Olympic Legends

Rowing
During the Olympics, we watched Nathan Cohen and Joseph Sullivan race in the rowing for a gold medal in 2012.
First, we started off slowly. The other rowers were in the lead until they started slowing down.
We started going ahead of rowers, one by one.
Finally we were past all the rowers. We were nearly at the finish line and, suddenly, we were right at the end and we won the gold. Our class was cheering and we called them the New Zealand legends.
